Can You Really Target Trouble Areas With “Spot-Reduction?”

How many Saturday morning infomercials have you seen that claim their product will firm and tone a specific body part? There must be a good enough reason for these companies to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a product that most people think is bogus. Yes, they draw you in with all the flashing footage, amazing testimonials, and of course the cheap price with an even better guarantee. There’s no question that people buy, but the big question is, does it work? Can a single product actually firm and tone a specific area? Is spot-reduction a myth or could it be a reality?
Besides the infomercials, I can probably bet that no personal trainer has ever guaranteed to you that you’d lose fat specifically at your belly, thighs or arms. With good reason, these trainers would never dare to be so certain, as they know spot-reduction is a myth. Well, this is where the problem lye's. Most personal trainers are taught that spot-reduction is a myth, an impossible venture with no evidence to support it. Hopefully this lack of knowledge crisis will lessen with the latest and revolutionary research found and with the outstanding contributions of world renowned strength coach, Charles Poliquin.
Poliquin, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, now residing in Arizona, has conducted over 20 years of research evaluating specific body fat sites in relation to changes in dietary intake, supplement intake and fitness training regimes.
